It may seem like the high school basketball season started just yesterday, but the reality is that it's beginning to wind down, as the last week of the regular season is upon us. The district tournaments will begin next week and the state champions will be crowned in only a few short weeks. While some districts have already solidified their regular season district champions, there are other districts with multiple teams who have the highly coveted #1 seeds just out of reach.
One particular district that stands out to me is District 4-AAA, which features Bearden, Maryville, Farragut, and Heritage. Bearden appears to be the leader of the group for now, but a slip up against Heritage or Farragut this week could change a lot within the standings. Meanwhile, Maryville has a big match-up with Farragut that will determine seeding as well. Needless to say, District 4-AAA is far from settled. In AA, Upperman will host Macon County in a battle of the top two teams in District 8-AA, and Martin Westview will travel to Dyersburg in a battle of the top two in District 13-AA. Despite focusing on some of the regular season district championship games here, the good thing about the Tennessee post-season is that there are several teams who are not mentioned that are capable of getting hot and making a run to Murfreesboro!
